A short note on ASAP

by Kasper Tidemann

— I know we’re running a bit late ourselves, but could you have the work ready this Friday? The window of opportunity is not open for long, so we’re really trying to push things here. Can we get it done as soon as possible?

If you’re a developer, chances are you’ve been in situations with clients asking you the above questions many times before.

While I personally do appreciate clients wanting for things to be done in an efficient manner, I really dislike As Soon As Possible. ASAP kills creativity and innovation. In the end, only this truly matters:

What takes time, careful consideration – and what is built on quality – generally is harder to tear down than, well, the opposite.

So, when is it done? When it’s done.
